Book Fair
Participants: booksellers and institutions.
Place: Fernando Miranda Square (city centre)
Organizers: El Bierzo Booksellers Association and the city council of Ponferrada.
Description: During a week, in the city centre, booksellers and different institutions celebrate the book exaltation week. This fair has been a reference in the promotion of reading and culture in this city for over 10 years.
Editors, writers, booksellers and institutions meet to pay homage to books and culture during a week.
Activities:
- Salibrín: activities to promote reading in education centres, in Casa de la Cultura (the culture house).
- Prizes presentation for the yearly competition in reading.
- First prize presentation of the winter short stories competition.

Old, ancient, and discount Books Fair
Participants: spezialiced booksellers.
Place: Fernando Miranda Square (city centre)
Organizers: Old, ancient and discount Booksellers Association of Castilla y León and the city council of Ponferrada.
Description: This is a Fair which accompanies the book fair, always following this one.
Medieval Market
Participants:
Place: Templar Castle surroundings. Old town streets.
Organizers: The city council of Ponferrada.
Description: On the occasion of the Templar night celebration, the old town is given some atmosphere with market stalls. Aromatic spices, essences, old remedies, clairvoyants, craftsmen… The Middle Ages impregnates all the corners, the Templar Knights and the Town Ladies walk around, they visit the merchants stands, they haggle prices… Visitors may take part of all this magic wearing the costumes of that time.
Activities: Birds of prey exhibition and falconry, street entertainment, jugglers…
Wine Fair
Participants: Wineries which are members of the C.R.D.O. Bierzo (Regulation Council of the designation of Origin of El Bierzo)
Place: Fernando Miranda Square (city centre)
Organizers: C.R.D.O. Bierzo and the city council of Ponferrada.
Description: It is one of the activities to promote the Wine of El Bierzo. Several wineries come together yearly in the City Centre, and visitors taste the different kinds of wine with El Bierzo designation of Origin.
Ceramics Fair
Participants: Ceramic craftsmen admitted because of the quality of their works and their professional experience.
Place: Paseo de San Antonio – Calle Ancha. Playground of the School Campo de la Cruz.
Organizers: Centre of Craftsmen Jobs and the city council of Ponferrada.
Description: This fair is one of the most deeply-rooted and traditional in our city. It has been celebrated for over 25 years.
During its celebration different craftsmen exhibit and sell their works, made with different techniques, and, previously valued by the CENTRE OF CRAFTSMEN JOBS, one of the organising entities.
Due to the quality of the works and to the volume reached in sells and number of exhibitors, it is a fair with national prestige, and a reference place for the citizens who enjoy on these days the beauty and quality of these totally handmade works.
Folklore and Gastronomy Fair
Participants: Private associations
Place: Junction of Avda. De la Libertad and Avda. de Asturias.
Organizers: Casa de Andalucía (Andalusia House)
Description: A deeply-rooted fair in the City, in which more and more associations of different regions and countries take part in the gastronomy and folklore exhibitions of each place of origin.
It is a party which is held at the same time as La Encina Festivities.
Painting Fair
Participants: Painters of El Bierzo
Place: The City Council Square
Organizers: Painters Association of El Bierzo and the city council of Ponferrada.
Description: It is already a traditional fair in Ponferrada, where new paint styles and styles already established exhibit their works in the street for those that walk along to enjoy them, and if they want, to buy them.
Tapas Fair
Participants: Hotel and catering trade.
Place: El Plantío Park
Organizers: 21st century Licensed Victuallers’ Association and the city council of Ponferrada
Description: This is a lively new fair that has been running for only a few years, where one can try delicious mini Spanish dishes whilst strolling through this beautiful park (El Plantío)
Craftwork Fair
Participants: local and national craftsmen. Soon international.
Place: Fairground and the City Council Square.
Organizers: Association of El Bierzo of craftsmen and craftswomen.
Collaboration: The city Council of Ponferrada and the Federation of Craftsworks Organisations of Castilla y León.
Description: national fair, young in its trajectory, it began in 2003. International vocation.
Activities:
- Bookbinding/print and engraving/Glass/Ceramics…
- Craftworks prizes Ponferrada City.
- Unique piece prize.
- Best stand prize.
Live Workshops:
- Life show of the phases and manners of the works elaboration.
- Participative workshops: the public, in small groups, experiments and takes part in the elaboration of the different pieces.
